The objective of the study reported herein was to evaluate fetal well-being, to obtain fetal measurements, characterize the intrauterine environment, and to determine variation of the utero-placental thickness during late gestation in the mare. 280-320 days healthy pregnant mares (n=8) were examined by transabdominal and transrectal ultrasonography. The results suggest tha ultrasonographic evaluation of the fetal-placental unit represents a careful method to determine fetal well-being for high-risk pregnancy diagnosis. It was also observed that assessing utero-placental and fetal fluids echogenicity thickness by transrectal ultrasonographic examination is more suitable than transabdominal approach.

Abstract
The objective of the study reported herein was to evaluate fetal well-being, to obtain fetal measurements, characterize the intrauterine environment, and to determine variation of the utero-placental thickness during late gestation in the mare. 280-320 days healthy pregnant mares (n=8) were examined by transabdominal and transrectal ultrasonography. The results suggest tha ultrasonographic evaluation of the fetal-placental unit represents a careful method to determine fetal well-being for high-risk pregnancy diagnosis. It was also observed that assessing utero-placental and fetal fluids echogenicity thickness by transrectal ultrasonographic examination is more suitable than transabdominal approach.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
