Gubbio is one of the most famous towns in Umbria, but only a few know its main economic activity: the production of cement. In Gubbio, in fact, for about a century two important factories have been producing cement. Their impact on the environment and public health has been recently discussed by a part of the local community. Although industrial emissions respect the limits established by law, some residents have organized a committee for the protection of environment and health in the territory of Gubbio. They ask for further investigation, especially on the epidemiological field. In this regard, the community is divided, because the two cement factories and other firms joined to them represent a crucial resource for local employment and economy. In the background, the institutions that since World War II have been connected to the left, which are traditionally more sensitive to environmental themes, appear unwilling to really face the issue and mention the encouraging data on the emissions released by these factories. This paradigmatic case may provide indicators for a proper assessment of complex implications of the relationship industry-environment-health.

Abstract
This paradigmatic case may provide indicators for a proper assessment of complex implications of the relationship industry-environment-health.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
