The present paper focus the attention of the role that anaerobic digestion can play in the implementation of circular economy in the EU. Current level of implementation, shortcomings, future implementation and research trends were also analyzed and discussed. Main findings indicate this process a suitable for further relevant improvement in the next future and also suitable for its implementation in developing countries.
