In this work we analyze the trends of agricultural drought in some locations of the Umbria and Abruzzo regions over the period 1951-2018. In both areas, on the basis of the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI), there is a tendency towards an increase in agricultural drought in the autumn-winter period, more marked in the Abruzzo region than in Umbria. The calculation of the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) highlights critical situations in the springsummer period in several Umbrian stations and in Avezzano (Abruzzo region). The reason for this tendency can be found in the increase in reference evapotranspiration, which in turn depends on the positive thermometric trends, particularly evident in the last 30 years.
