By reading part of the private correspondence of Bernardino Campello’s, who was the general auditor at the Nunciature of Madrid in the years 1632-1639, this essay reconstructs the multiple reasons of friction between the royal authority and the representatives of the Holy See, especially those regarding legal issues. It also provides interpretative elements on the role and functions of a key-institution in the Hispanic- Pontifical relations, as the Iberian Nunciature certainly was.
