From Bologna to Augusta : Bianconi in the Italian Culture of the Mid-eighteenth Century · Between 1748 and 1749, while living in Augusta in Bavaria, Giovanni Ludovico Bianconi wrote and published the « Journal des Savans d’Italie », a French-language periodical designed to raise awareness in Europe of the developments in Italian scientific and humanistic culture. The Journal’s articles, already noted by historiography as an expression of mid-18th-century moderate Catholicism, are analyzed to better define Bianconi’s education and cultural relations in the early phase of his intellectual and professional life.
