In light of relevant rulings of the European Courts, thise paper deals with the protection of the fundamental rights of individuals with gender dysphoria, with particular regard to the health and gender identity of the so called “great olderminor”, who only recently has drawn the attention of the Italian case law. The Author examines the major issues that affect adolescence and emphasizes highlights the progress that the Italian legal system has made in recent years in relation to the needs of thoese teenagers who want to change their sex and name, at times without undergoing sex reassignment surgery. In line with the necessity to ofenhancinge protection of rights of all transgender persons, the objective of this work articleis to promote anti-discrimination policies in Italy whilest respecting the fundamental guarantees of dignity and self-determination of these “special minors”.
