Abstract

The article looks at some disputes regarding the legitimacy and recognition of rights in public spaces through a case study carried out in a migratory setting, part of a broader ethnographic research currently in progress in the city of Prato (Italy). By analyzing the ways in which boundaries are defined in administrative policies and urban order is designed around the issue of waste management, some “acts of citizenship” are examined with the purpose of questioning political subjectivity and the right of classifying differences in urban disputes that are marked by frequent references to pluralism and interculturalism.
