This article is based on two phases with a single objective in mind: to show how different anthropologies dealing with disability practices, experiences and policies, oriented by a common ethnographic methodological foundation, are able to consider the socio-cultural and political threshold between the intimate and the public dimension as blurred. It consists of two parts. In the first part, we will try to reread Antonio Gramsci’s works and life from an anthropological point of view, focusing on the relationship between embodiment processes and institutions—primarily the state—and on the critical power of Gramsci’s irony and sarcasm. In the second part, we reflect on how networks of research and social action can interact with the eld of disability, focusing on the relational dimension established between social agents and on the transformation of the political spaces of recognition. Furthermore, the ethnography we claim for is based on scale variations as well as on trans-contextual shifts. Indeed, we call for an anthropological work on transformation and forms of life. Change is the core problem. As well as contradiction. The article questions welfare policy, rehabilitation, emerging forms of subjectivity. If anthropologically monitored, these topics could advocate for the improvement of one’s own abilities and the discovery of hidden potentialities: these are the main elements of an ethics of political passions. In short, this paper looks at disability as a relevant issue for a political-critical anthropology of processes of embodiment. We want to emphasise the comparative effectiveness of ethnographic reports, the transformative power that can derive from the theoretical practices of anthropology. We work in a collective laboratory, in terms of co/interdisciplinarity and we promote a collective and open research. In this way, our intervention wants to be in accordance with the public seminar: it present the result of an annual collective work of the AM&D group, conducted through a plural and unconstrained comparative methodology, constantly trying to question in new forms the relationship between medical anthropology and disability.

L’intervento si articola in due fasi con un unico obiettivo: mostrare come diverse antropologie che si occupano di pratiche, esperienze e politiche della disabilità, orientate da un comune fondamento metodologico etnografico, siano in grado di considerare sfumata la soglia socioculturale e politica tra la dimensione intima e quella pubblica. Si compone di due parti. Nella prima parte, Giovanni Pizza cercherà di rileggere l’opera e la vita di Antonio Gramsci da un punto di vista antropologico, concentrandosi sul rapporto tra processi di incorporazione e istituzioni – in primo luogo lo stato – e sul potere critico dell’ironia e del sarcasmo di Gramsci. Nella seconda parte, Massimiliano Minelli riflette su come le reti di ricerca e l’azione sociale possano interagire con il campo della disabilità, focalizzando l’attenzione sulla dimensione relazionale che si instaura tra gli agenti sociali e sulla trasformazione degli spazi politici di riconoscimento. Nel complesso, l’analisi antropologico-etnografica e teorico-pratica mette in evidenza le variazioni di scala e gli spostamenti trans-contestuali, permettendo di lavorare sulle potenzialità di trasformazione delle forme di vita e di interrogarsi sui cambiamenti in atto, evidenziandone le contraddizioni: la messa in discussione delle politiche di welfare, i modelli di intervento prevalenti nella riabilitazione psicosociale, le forme emergenti di soggettività che fanno del “miglioramento delle proprie capacità” e della “scoperta delle potenzialità nascoste” gli elementi principali di un’etica delle passioni politiche. L’articolo considera la disabilità come una questione rilevante per un’antropologia politico-critica dei processi di incorporazione. Vogliamo sottolineare l’efficacia comparativa delle relazioni etnografiche, il potere trasformativo che può derivare dalle pratiche teoriche dell’antropologia. Lavoriamo in un laboratorio collettivo, in termini di co/interdisciplinarità e promuoviamo la ricerca collettiva e aperta. In questo modo il nostro intervento vuole essere in sintonia con il seminario pubblico: presentare il risultato di un lavoro collettivo annuale del gruppo AM&D, condotto attraverso una metodologia comparativa plurale e senza vincoli, cercando costantemente di mettere in discussione in forme nuove il rapporto tra antropologia medica e disabilità.
