The reaction of activated alcohols with the O-(tert-butyl) Se-phenyl selenocarbonate/hydroiodic acid system to give the corresponding alkyl phenyl selenides is described. The direct conversion of the hydroxyl group into a phenylselenenyl group is also extended to allyl- and tertiary alkyl alcohols. This work provides a safe, metal-free, and operationally simple process for the preparation of alkyl phenyl selenides from benzylic alcohols.

Abstract
The reaction of activated alcohols with the O-(tert-butyl) Se-phenyl selenocarbonate/hydroiodic acid system to give the corresponding alkyl phenyl selenides is described. The direct conversion of the hydroxyl group into a phenylselenenyl group is also extended to allyl- and tertiary alkyl alcohols. This work provides a safe, metal-free, and operationally simple process for the preparation of alkyl phenyl selenides from benzylic alcohols.File in questo prodotto:
