In this communication we propose a convenient methodology to effect the asymmetric methoxyselenenylation of beta-aryl alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes using as electrophilic reagent an optically pure sulfur-containing selenenyl chloride. Mechanistic aspects of the reaction were investigated and simple manipulations to prepare optically pure derivatives are reported.
