The paper presents a sensitivity study on the effect of prestressing on the dynamic properties (mainly eigenfrequencies) of prestressed concrete beams. Several prestressing technologies (bonded and unbonded tendons, straight, draped and parabolic tendons) as well as different constitutive laws for the materials have been investigated. The results of these analyses have shown that when using dynamical methods within the framework of structural identification and damage prognosis particular attention should be paid in the modelling of the structural elements to obtain results as accurate as possible.

Abstract

The paper presents a sensitivity study on the effect of prestressing on the dynamic properties (mainly eigenfrequencies) of prestressed concrete beams. Several prestressing technologies (bonded and unbonded tendons, straight, draped and parabolic tendons) as well as different constitutive laws for the materials have been investigated. The results of these analyses have shown that when using dynamical methods within the framework of structural identification and damage prognosis particular attention should be paid in the modelling of the structural elements to obtain results as accurate as possible.
