Rappresentare l’irrappresentabile, vedere l’invisibile. Breve storia disegnata del pensiero scientifico eretico

Heresy is the power of choice contrary to the opinion of the majority, whether shared or imposed. Heresy is the belief, supported by one's own science and conscience, that a unanimously interpreted fact may instead have a different and more valid interpretation. Heresy is the idea, at once concrete and visionary, that an individual's thinking can project beyond common sense and authoritatively stand on the side of truth. Many great heresies in history have been supported by drawing, which has made it possible to represent what was in fact unrepresentable, either because it had never been represented before or because it was forbidden to be represented. These visual expressions, often falling within the realm of hypothetigraphy, have pioneeringly accompanied and supported heretical thought, making it visible and therefore possible, reinforcing it and creating the disruptive conditions for the progress of science and society. Each of these drawings is a project on the world, literally understood as an idea that projects itself forward by breaking the state of facts. The contribution traces a drawn history of heretical thought through the discussion of a selection of drawings that, although heterogeneous because they come from different cultural spheres, have determined by their subversive force a radical change, becoming a watershed between epochs.

Eresia è la forza della scelta contraria all’opinione dei più, sia essa condivisa o imposta. Eresia è il convincimento, sostenuto dalla propria scienza e dalla propria coscienza, che un fatto unanimemente interpretato possa avere invece una diversa e più valida interpretazione. Eresia è l’idea, al contempo concreta e visionaria, che il pensiero del singolo possa proiettarsi oltre il senso comune e porsi autorevolmente dalla parte della verità. Molte grandi eresie della storia sono state supportate dal disegno, che ha consentito di rappresentare ciò che era di fatto irrappresentabile, perché mai rappresentato prima o perché vietato alla rappresentazione. Si tratta di espressioni visive, che spesso rientrano nell'ambito dell'ipotetigrafia, che hanno accompagnato e sostenuto pionieristicamente il pensiero eretico, rendendolo visibile e perciò possibile, rafforzandolo e creando le dirompenti condizioni di crisi atte a favorire il progresso della scienza e della società. Ognuno di questi disegni è un progetto sul mondo, inteso letteralmente come idea che si proietta in avanti infrangendo lo stato di fatto. Il contributo ripercorre una storia disegnata del pensiero eretico mediante la discussione di una selezione di disegni che, sebbene eterogenei perché provenienti da differenti ambiti culturali, hanno determinato per la loro forza sovversiva un mutamento radicale, divenendo spartiacque tra epoche.
