“Passing” is realised in being able to be considered as belonging to a social and relational category different from the one imposed, generally, by birth. This passing, in situations of extreme racial abuse, is necessary to survive; in most cases, it is motivated by obtaining a better quality of life, recognition of one's rights and a lower risk of persecution. “Passing” is thus declined as a complex response to deep-rooted injustices, as a painful practice that denounces, even implicitly, the possible consequences of crystallising situations of racism and oppressiveness. “Passing” expresses the porosity of the boundaries between personal deception and social illusion, it manifests the vacuity of identity boundaries that experience violent forms of belonging. It tells of the pains that are often hidden through the power to “pretend”, to “pass for”. This faculty is also typical of the educational process, where it is not necessarily synonymous with untruth, but an opportunity to bring out new points of view, new worlds.
Il “passing” si realizza nel riuscire a essere considerati appartenenti a una categoria sociale e relazionale diversa da quella imposta, in genere, dalla nascita. Questo passaggio, in situazioni di soprusi razziali estremi, è necessario a sopravvivere; nella maggior parte di casi, è motivato dall’ottenere una qualità della vita migliore, un riconoscimento dei propri diritti e un minor rischio di persecuzioni. Il “passing” si declina, quindi, come una risposta complessa a ingiustizie profonde, come una pratica dolorosa che denuncia, anche implicitamente, quali possano essere le conseguenze di cristallizzare le situazioni di razzismo e di sopraffazione. Il “passing” esprime la porosità dei limiti tra l’inganno personale e l’illusione sociale, manifesta la vacuità dei confini di identità che vivono forme di appartenenza violenta. Racconta sofferenze spesso nascoste attraverso il potere del “far finta”, del “farsi passare per”. Tale facoltà è tipica anche dei processi formativi dove non è necessariamente sinonimo di falsità, ma occasione per far emergere nuovi punti di vista, nuovi mondi.
