In 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, at Papiano (Perugia, Central Italy), field experiments were carried out in order to evaluate the effect of some seed dressing products and foliar fungicides on the most common foliar fungal diseases of bread wheat: powdery mildew, yellow rust, brown rust, septoria and stagonospora leaf blotch. Epoxiconazole (alone or in mixture with kresoxim-methyl), cyproconazole + trifloxystrobin, tebuconazole and tetraconazole gave the best results. Satisfactory results were also obtained with cyproconazole + prochloraz and azoxystrobin. In the three experimental years, grain yield in plots where fungicide treatments determined low disease incidence increased by 6.3, 96.0 and 5.7%, compared to the untreated control, due to the climatic conditions, which caused a different incidence and severity of the observed foliar diseases.
