Biplots have proven useful in agronomic research to understand the essential structure of datasets from Multiple Environment Trials (MET). However, this kind of graphs has not yet become common in applied agriculture research, also due to the lack of simple freeware software tools. The aim of this work was to code an R script for AMMI and GGE analyses on multi-environment variety trials and use it on a seven-years field trial on durum wheat, carried out from 1996 to 2003 in central Italy, on a randomised block design with three replicates. Results confirm the usefulness of different types of biplots to grasp at first sight the essential aspects of the dataset; in particular, AMMI and GGE biplots may complement each other and assist field technicians in the process of varietal selection. This R script should enable users with a limited knowledge of the R environment and its constructs to perform easily the AMMI and GGE analyses, without the need for any commercial software.
