The article aims at critically exploring “democratic confederalism” in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES – also known as Rojava) through the lenses of comparative public law. Above all, it shall assess its innovative political and institutional experience as an original vision of democracy beyond the State. In particular, the analysis will take into account both the ideological background of the AANES (with respect to Abdullah Öcalan and Murray Bookchin’s main works) and its fundamental principles and institutions, with a focus on women’s liberation and the ecological question.

Abstract
The article aims at critically exploring “democratic confederalism” in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES – also known as Rojava) through the lenses of comparative public law. Above all, it shall assess its innovative political and institutional experience as an original vision of democracy beyond the State. In particular, the analysis will take into account both the ideological background of the AANES (with respect to Abdullah Öcalan and Murray Bookchin’s main works) and its fundamental principles and institutions, with a focus on women’s liberation and the ecological question.File in questo prodotto:
