In horses mycosis of the guttural pouch is recognized as the most commonly reported disease of these peculiar anatomic structures. In the present report the Authors described the presence of a lesion due to Aspergillus fumigatus in the roof of the medial compartment of the right guttural pouch of an horse (female, 12 years old) which has never showed symptoms attributed to guttural pouch mycosis before and died for an acute pulmonary oedema in a time of 12 hours since the onset of respiratory distress. This case referred gave the opportunity to the Authors to report here a review on the main epidemiological, pathogenetic and clinical aspects of the guttural pouch mycosis.
