Abstract
The scientific work of Aldo Cossu includes nice papers on interesting geometric structures of finite projective spaces. In the mid Fifties, like many young Italian and foreign mathematicians, Cossu was attracted to finite geometry by the beauty of Segre’s proof of the controversial conjecture of two Finnish astronomers Jrnefelt and Kuustaanheimo, defined implausible by the famous mathematician M. Hall jr. in his review appeared in the Mathematical Review. In this paper, a survey of the contributions of Aldo Cossu in finite geometry is given. In particular, the study of maximal arcs, initiated by Barlotti and Cossu is still a very active research areaI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
