In horses cholangiocellular carcinoma is an uncommon primary hepatic neoplasia arising from the intrahepatic biliary tract epithelium. This malignant tumor occur in aged horses, and is characterized by nonspecific signs, rarely evident until growth of the neoplasia is advanced. Therefore antemortem diagnosis is difficult, and also the laboratoristic findings only support a liver disease. The Authors describe a case of cholagiocellular carcinoma, where the liver biopsy led to a presumptive diagnosis of cholangiocellular carcinoma. The horse was then euthanatized and the necropsy confirmed the diagnosis.
