This paper deals with the computer simulation of a low-cost Dielectric Resonator Oscillator (DRO) for 24GHz applications. The proposed approach is based on two separate steps. First, a Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) analysis of the DR-cavity structure is performed. Then, the obtained scattering matrix is inserted into a Harmonic Balance (HB) simulator and both the oscillation frequency and the output power are computed. This procedure has been carried-out using commercial software only, in order to assess an industrial-like design methodology.

Abstract
This paper deals with the computer simulation of a low-cost Dielectric Resonator Oscillator (DRO) for 24GHz applications. The proposed approach is based on two separate steps. First, a Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) analysis of the DR-cavity structure is performed. Then, the obtained scattering matrix is inserted into a Harmonic Balance (HB) simulator and both the oscillation frequency and the output power are computed. This procedure has been carried-out using commercial software only, in order to assess an industrial-like design methodology.File in questo prodotto:
