The ban from 2024 of the use of chromium (VI) in Europe requires studies to evaluate alternatives that have less impact on the environment and safety. A study of an alternative to the deposition of cadmium with hexavalent chromium for the aerospace industry has been conducted: zinc nickel plating with trivalent chromium as a sealant. Zinc nickel film deposited on steel, subjected to salt corrosion test, shows encouraging results confirmed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) analysis.
