Passionaria Antiqua Latina Medii Aevii (PaLMA) is a project created in cooperation between SISMEL Foundation and the University of Studies of Cassino and Southern Latium (UNICLaM).The project is dedicated to the census and the analytic description of Passionaries of the Middle Ages (mostly unedited and anonymous), whose production is dat- able (or dated) to the interval between the centuries VIII-XII. The term «Passionaries» means a well recognizable (often highly variable) typology of hagiographic manuscripts designed to contain and transmit vitae and passiones of saints, according to a specific compilative project, wheter it can be thematic, liturgical, calendar or of other nature. The aim is sharing via online database analytical descriptions of manuscripts made coherent by groupes identified by chronotopes (chronological and geographical). As identified in the context of coherent sets, individual manuscripts can more easily be broken up into data comparable both from the archaeological point of view and from the delicate operation of identifying texts, providing not only an important contribution to future editions, but also to the improvement and revision of the data present in the database of Bibliotheca Hagiographica Latina (BHL). In this way every passionary is configured as a “collection”, that is a true hagiographic anthology, which can contain more than a hundred texts, often in editorial forms often unknown.
