Silymarin extract (silibinin, silychristin and silydianin) is reported to protect liver cells and to provide antioxidant, immune stimulating and anti-inflammatory effects (Wellington et al., 2001), which can be of value during heat stress. No information is available on the effect of silymarin on rumen metabolism. The aim of this paper was to investigate the effects of silymarin on goats exposed to hot environment in climatic chambers.
