The research, examining practices and narratives that can emerge in the daily life of addiction care programs, tries to investigate how human and non-human actors contribute to the definition of the therapies, yielding different emerging ways of “realizing” methadone, which, in a nonessentialist key, ceases to be just a drug or a “substance.” Using a praxeological approach to overcome Service thresholds and body boundaries, the article explores material multiplicities and relational potentials that can, from time to time, actualize the heterogeneous networks of therapy, shedding light on the different forms of care.

Abstract

The paper focuses on therapies applied in addiction care programs based on ethnographic research carried out in an urban region of central Italy involving people who use substances and health operators working in primary care services for “chemical” and “behavioral” addictions - Ser.D., Servizio per le Dipendenze.
