The author analyzes data that would incentivize tourism to boost GDP and then subjects it to criticism. In particular, tourism is depicted as a parasitic economic activity – one that does not redistribute resources but instead extracts value from cultural, public and common heritage. To address the social, economic and environmental negatives of touristification and overtourism in urban spaces, critical doctrines propose: i) valuing public intervention in the tourism economy (according to the Articles 9 and 41 of the Italian Constitution) or ii) valuing ‘commoning practices’. The latter approach aims to encourage the participation of local communities and promote genuinely sustainable tourism. In any case, it is deemed necessary to reverse the current tourism market structure to protect human rights and to ensure integral human development.

Abstract
In any case, it is deemed necessary to reverse the current tourism market structure to protect human rights and to ensure integral human development.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
