The essay reconstructs the career of Filippo Vassalli from his degree in Roman law in Siena with Luigi Moriani in 1907 until the inaugural address with which he officially opened the chair of civil law at the University of Genoa in 1918. The study examines his first works of Roman law, centered on historicism and interpolation. It elaborates on the meeting with Vittorio Scialoja, which was decisive for Vassalli’s commitment to the civil procedure field and for his evolution into a specialist in civil law and ‘legislator’.
