Abstract

In this paper for the first time an experimental investigation on the use of a software-defined radio (SDR) for radio-frequency noise measurements is performed. After the characterization of radio-frequency key parameters, the stability of noise measurements was also studied by exploiting the Allan variance. The comprehensive characterization based on SDRs, makes it possible to notify how different operational settings may affect the achievable measurements performance.
