Mathematics didactics has always used graphic tools and aids to improve the immediacy and effectiveness of teaching. One of the most frequently practised methods of reinforcing teaching action, especially in pre-school and school age, is through the playful approach. The play makes it possible to memorise information contents by associating them with the real-time gratification offered by the playful context: that of learning by playing is a wellknown strategy and today widely used in the contexts of knowledge transmission (think of the edutainment sphere and its many applications to cultural contents of various kinds). In this context, Lewis Carroll published the booklet The Game of Logic in 1887, aimed at the playful teaching of logic through its representation in visual form. Through the analysis of this example, this contribution intends to emphasise the importance of the perceptual dimension, and in particular its visual component, in the teaching of pure sciences such as mathematics.
