In this paper, the technical impacts related to large-scale wind generators penetration on the Romanian national grid are investigated, by analyzing the effects of replacing conventional generators with intermittent and low-inertia units on power system. To this aim, detailed steady-state and transient analyses are performed by considering real operating scenarios inferred, according to a data-driven modelling procedure, by statistical analysis of historical datasets, and multiple generator locations. Specifically, different wind split values are considered between two points of interconnection, identified as low and high load areas of the power system, respectively. A modified IEEE 23-bus test system representing Romanian national power system is implemented to perform load flow and dynamic transient simulations. Results show the impacts of multiple generation profiles and severe perturbation phenomena on buses voltage magnitudes, active/reactive power flows, power losses and frequency deviations. Such analyses are assessed in the task of estimating the most challenging issues that should be addressed for supporting a particular national power system evolution toward a fully decarbonization.
