The paper investigates Pier Paolo Pasolini’s ethical message aimed at protecting the ancient city –considered as a work of art of civilization and history– and implemented through the cinematographic image. The director denounces the sudden social and economic changes produced by capitalism, which have led to the ‘unreal’ transformation of the city. The theme is addressed from an architectural and urban perspective, analyzing three films: La ricotta (1963), La forma della città (1974) and Le mura di Sana’a (1971).
