La verità che disorienta. Il contributo di Tzvetan Todorov alla giustizia restorativa

Tzvetan Todorov’s reflections on restorative justice originate in his concern with the moral function of memory and with the evaluation of the experi- ence of evil in the twentieth century, particularly in the context of transi- tional justice. Within Todorov’s thought, however, it is possible to discern several conceptual elements that offer a significant contribution to the broader restorative paradigm. Among these, in addition to his dialogical and intersubjective anthropological conception, is his analysis of the notion of “truth”. This paper seeks to emphasize this contribution by proposing a semantic shift within Todorov’s framework – from the relation between “truth” and “reconciliation” to that between “truth” and “restoration.” In doing so, it aims to move the focus from transitional justice to restorative justice, through an examination of the very concept of truth, accompanied by a discussion of memory and its uses and abuses.
