Inspired by long-term personal contacts with students and peace activists both from Gaza and Israel over the past two decades, my paper reviews recent developments in the fine-grained debate about Israel’s settler colonial character, outlining four under-examined dimensions in the settler colonial lens: the native/colonizer dichotomy, the whitening of Israeli society, the undercurrents of re-and de-colonization and the porosity of frontiers. As Israel become a global signifier for settler colonial struggles in the contemporary anti-imperialist left, it becomes central to analyze more carefully the Eurocentric distortions that highlight the limits of this interpretative scheme.
