Abstract. Italian academic departments are routinely ranked by ANVUR through a performance index known as the ISPD. This index exhibits several limitations, most notably the fact that it ignores the correlation among the scores on which it is based. Building on our previous contributions, we propose a model in which intra-departmental correlation depends on department size. Estimation is carried out using a truncated version of the Betoidal distribution, in order to accommodate the specific features of the ANVUR 2022 ranking exercise.
