The paper presents recent research on the ancient port system of Gravisca and the Tarquinian coastline, focusing on the interaction between the coastal environment, settlement dynamics, and maritime networks. The integration of archaeological, topographical, and geomorphological data has allowed the reconstruction of the coastal landscape’s evolution from the Etruscan to the Roman period. Particular attention is devoted to the link between sacred areas, economic activities, and infrastructures, revealing the strategic role of Gravisca as both a religious and commercial hub. Recent underwater surveys, conducted in collaboration between the Universities of Perugia and Milan (IULM), have provided new evidence for submerged structures possibly related to productive activities, contributing to a broader understanding of southern Etruria’s coastal organization and its enduring connection with the sea.

Abstract
The paper presents recent research on the ancient port system of Gravisca and the Tarquinian coastline, focusing on the interaction between the coastal environment, settlement dynamics, and maritime networks. The integration of archaeological, topographical, and geomorphological data has allowed the reconstruction of the coastal landscape’s evolution from the Etruscan to the Roman period. Particular attention is devoted to the link between sacred areas, economic activities, and infrastructures, revealing the strategic role of Gravisca as both a religious and commercial hub. Recent underwater surveys, conducted in collaboration between the Universities of Perugia and Milan (IULM), have provided new evidence for submerged structures possibly related to productive activities, contributing to a broader understanding of southern Etruria’s coastal organization and its enduring connection with the sea.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
