This article examines transdisciplinarity as an epistemic problem concerning the relational space in which different forms of knowledge interact. After discussing some of the main contemporary models of transdisciplinarity, it argues that such approaches often presuppose without explicitly conceptualizing the “between” in which heterogeneous perspectives become productive of knowledge. The Platonic concept of metaxy (μεταξύ) is proposed as a way of articulating this space: not as synthesis, mediation, or a predetermined structure, but as a relational condition that connects distinct perspectives while preserving their irreducibility. On this basis, transdisciplinarity is interpreted as an epistemic form of metaxy, in which determinations emerge through relations rather than from the subsequent integration of independent descriptions. This approach also shows significant affinities with contemporary scientific practices in which relational structures play a constitutive role.
