Abstract

The globalised agri-industrial food system has become the leading force shaping the context in which farming operates, but there is evidence that some producers and consumers search for an alternative to the system. Direct selling by producers offers an alternative in which producers and consumers find mutual economic and qualitative satisfaction. The poster focuses on the presentation of the first outcomes achieved by a three years research project that started in 2010 on organic horticultural farms located in Emilia Romagna, Marche and Abruzzo. The poster provides the research findings concerning the analysis of the competitiveness of organic horticultural products direct selling. It focuses on the economic, financial and organisational characteristics surveyed, in order to explore current trends in short chain development and support the identification of innovative organizational solution for organic production selling.
