Hyperhidrosis may be definite as a pathological condition in which there is excessive secretion of the sweat glands. Although this problem may present in any part of the body, the axilla are the most common region of the body about which patients complain. Axillary hyperhidrosis is a common problem which can produce a personal and social handicap of great significance to patients. It is accompained by physical and psychological discomfort. Treatament has consisted of application of topical antiperspirants, systemic anticholinergic medicaments, excision and primary closure of involved axillary skin, subdermal shaving of the subcutaneous fat pad containing the hypersecretivy sweat glands, combination of all above and suction assisted lipolysis. The Authors review the main surgical techniques for correcting this pathology, dwelling on indications, advantages and possible complications.
