Penile air plethysmography is a non invasive technique for the study of the penile arterial circulation; it measures the pulsatile volume changes in the penis related to heart beats, i.e. the arterial pulse wave. In the present study penile plethysmography was performed with the use of the Grass PT5 volumetric transducer, a transducer capable of measuring volume changes (not presure changes). By placing a blood pressure cuff at the root of the penis proximal to the plethysmoghaph penile pulse weve and penile blood pressure was recorded. These two recordings were dono in the flaccid resting penis (basic penile pulse wave, basic penile blood pressure) and after penile stimulation with cuff ischemia (PORH- Postocclusive Reactive Hyperemia) or with intracavernous injection of papaverine (ICIP) at the small dose of 8 mg (ICIP minitest).
