Leishmaniaisis is a pathology in which renal damage due to immunocomplexes is frequent and is often a cause of death. Proteinuria can be detected and characterized by dodecyl sulfate-agarose gel electrophoresis (SDS-AGE). The study was conducted on 35 dogs naturally affected by leishamaniasis and on 20 healthy dogs in which blood serum and urinary samples were collected to determine urea, creatinine and phosphorus and to performe urinalysis, urine protein/creatinine ratio (UPC) and urinary proteins electrophoresis uring SDS-AGE. The results of this study show that the UPC has a higher diagnostic value than serum biochemical parameters in detecting kidney disease in dogs with Leishmaniasis and that qualitative study of proteinuria by SDS-AGE is a more effective early diagnostic tool for this purpose.
Preliminary results about use of SDA-AGE to assess proteinuria and to monitor renal damage in dogs affected by Leishmaniasis before and after therapy.

Abstract
The results of this study show that the UPC has a higher diagnostic value than serum biochemical parameters in detecting kidney disease in dogs with Leishmaniasis and that qualitative study of proteinuria by SDS-AGE is a more effective early diagnostic tool for this purpose.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
