Anaplasma platys (formerly Ehrlichia platys), an obligate Gram-negative intracellular bacteria, belonging to Anaplasmataceae family, infects the platelets determining the canine cyclic thrombocytopenia (ICCT). Up to date the pathogenesis of the infection is scanty understood due to the wide variety of pathological patterns described in worldwide infected animals. The aim of the present work was to describe 2 cases of naturally occurring ICCT from Central Italy. One of these animals showed immunomediate hemolytic anemia too. The symptoms and the laboratory findings observed are discussed as well as the importance to include this thick-borne pathogen in the differential diagnosis of protozoal diseases.
