A new resonant probe for dielectric permittivity measurements bas been designed and tested. The probe provides a large interaction volume and can be inserted into piles of soft or powdered material, thus allowing the characterisation of large and inhomogeneous volumes of the Material Under test (MUT). An equivalent circuit of the coupling region of the probe has been derived, the sensitivity of the probe with respect to the permittivity of the MUT bas been evaluated and a permittivity measurement procedure presented.
