The present work focuses on the analysis of the observed movements of an earth dam located near Chianciano Terme, Siena, Central Italy. Since its date of construction – in the sixties – the dam has been suffering a certain amount of movements. This has required an extensive monitoring of the structure, which has been performed over the last 40 years. In order to understand the main causes of such phenomena and to find the remedial engineering solution, a large set of measurements obtained from several in situ instruments (topographic measurements, extensometers, inclinometers, piezometers, crackmeters) have been collected and analysed. Such data, as well as the main findings deriving from the observations, are summarised in the paper.
