The preliminary results obtained in field trials conducted in order to evaluate the efficacy of a litter treatment with an ecological and bio-hygienic additive, as an hygienic integrated program, in two commercial broiler flocks are reported. This study was carried out in two Italian commercial poultry farms over one year of experimental period. Two large broiler houses, control (C) and treated (T), were selected in each farm for similarity in sizes, density, ventilation system, drinking and eating equipment. Litter consisted of 5-7 cm of wheat straw, regularly changed at the end of each cycle, and treated (T) covering the surface by calcium sulphate and essential oils of lavender and lemon at dosage of 2 g of additive plus 25 g of calcium carbonate per m2, the day before the chick housing and repeated twice a-month during the 1st month; after 1 g of additive plus 25 g of calcium carbonate per m2, twice a-month, to the end of each cycle. Coccidia oocyst concentrations were evaluated in each house by floatation of litter pool samples picked up at the 1st and the 7th weeks, in six different points over four rearing cycles. Since coccidian oocysts were observed only in the House C of both flocks A and B, during the entire experimental period the preliminary results obtained in litter treated with the ecological and bio-hygienic additive underlain the efficacy to control the coccidian oocysts in commercial broiler houses

Abstract
Since coccidian oocysts were observed only in the House C of both flocks A and B, during the entire experimental period the preliminary results obtained in litter treated with the ecological and bio-hygienic additive underlain the efficacy to control the coccidian oocysts in commercial broiler housesI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
