Abstract

Photocatalytic water splitting represents a sustainable way to produce hydrogen as solar fuel. Oxide semiconductors are suitable candidates to realize water decomposition. In the present work the structural and photophysical characterization of newly synthesized La2xGa2yIn2zO3 solid solutions with varying relative amounts of the three metals is proposed. A sulphur doping strategy is carried out in order to improve the response of the catalyst to solar radiation. These novel semiconductors are tested as photocatalysts in water splitting process. The most active catalysts are chosen for sonophotocatalytic experiments. The simultaneous action of light and ultrasounds in presence of a catalyst gives rise to a synergistic effect on the hydrogen production.
