The purpose of this paper is to use anthropometric measures, height and weight, to assess the evolution of well-being of Italian conscripts in the second half of the XX.th century and to analyze the socio-economic determinants of height and BMI. We focus on two cohorts of conscripts born in 1951 and 1980 using a selected sub-sample drawn from the Banca dati Prin 2004, representing the classic macro-area of Italy. Significant differences in stature by educational status are evident, as better educated individuals tend to be taller, although we find a decrease in the magnitude of education-related differences, even if the latter are not completely erased. On the other hand, we notice an increase of BMI of lower educated conscripts, especially in the South.

Abstract
On the other hand, we notice an increase of BMI of lower educated conscripts, especially in the South.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
