In horses there are few reports of ocular and adnexal neoplasms. Squamous cell carcinoma and equine sarcoid are most commonly reported, while malignant vascular tumors are rare. A 17 years-old gelding was presented with an history of monolateral serohemorragic nasal and ocular discharge worsening after exposure to the sun. The third eyelid was diffusely thickened and hyperemic; therefore it was surgically removed. Histologic examination revealed a neoplasm characterized by a superficial, more differentiated subepithelial vascular spaces lined by plumped endothelium with minimal atypia, supported by a thick collagenous stroma; in deeper area the neoplasm show a less differentiated solid sarcomatous pattern, multifocally disseminated and made of poligonal to spindle cells with marked atypia and high mitotic index. Immunohistochemistry (pancytocheratin, vimentin, Factor VIII-RAg, laminin, MMP-2 and MMP-9) confirmed the vascular origin of the tumor and allowed evaluation of proliferative and infiltrative behaviour. Hemangiosarcoma of third eyelid was diagnosed on histomorfology and immunoreactivity. Some anamnestic and histopathological features could suggest attinic involvement in the pathogenesis of the neoplasia.

Abstract
Some anamnestic and histopathological features could suggest attinic involvement in the pathogenesis of the neoplasia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
