MiniSTR loci have demonstrated to be an effective tool to recover genetic information from degraded sample due to the small PCR products. The use of these non-CODIS miniSTRs can increase the probability that a degraded sample can be typed and in addition these systems can be used in complex paternity cases where more markers are needed.
