Starting from two corrupted textual places of the Vergilian cento Alcesta, the presence of marginal explanatory notes in the tradition up stream the Salmasian Codex (Par. Lat. 10318) is identified, and a whole new chapter on the studies regarding the material transmission of the Salmasian Anthology before its reliable manuscript witness can be open. On the basis of this new attainment, v. 145 of the cento is emended and the mechanism of the mistake behind the erroneous reading of v. 134 can be explained.
