New strategies for buildings’ energy efficiency optimization and global warming mitigation constitute a really big deal for researchers all over the world, especially after IPCC Reports suggestions and EPBD European Directive implementation. In this work we describe a method to assess the impact of high albedo roof on summer thermal performance of buildings. We also apply this proposed methodology to an existing typical Italian residential building for one family located in Perugia, Italy. The procedure consists of building’s dynamic simulation with real weather conditions, experimental measurements on roof tiles and following analysis of results with a threefold aim. The purpose of the work is indeed: to evaluate the impact of high albedo tiles on roof thermal conditions during summer, to study the consequent indoor thermal behavior and energy consumption variation; and finally to assess the high reflective roof impact against global warming, given the acknowledged benefit caused by high albedo surfaces both on local and global climate. Finding a really strong influence of roof reflectance in all of these considered aspects especially for old Italian existing buildings with poor insulation level, we conclude that buildings’ envelope albedo optimization could became a strategic solution for energy consumption reduction in summer and global warming mitigation.

Abstract
Finding a really strong influence of roof reflectance in all of these considered aspects especially for old Italian existing buildings with poor insulation level, we conclude that buildings’ envelope albedo optimization could became a strategic solution for energy consumption reduction in summer and global warming mitigation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
